Public House, Walsall
A new public house in the centre of Walsall for the local Highgate and Walsall Brewery. The pub will form an important part of the new public space around the Walsall Art Gallery. The building is one of a collection that loosely form the public space, its low profile and deep plan giving the pub an equivalent presence south onto the canal basin and east towards the High Street.
The roof and walls are clad in a variety of dark materials that emphasise the volume of the building, giving a distinct identity from street level and from the upper levels of the gallery. The interior has a surprisingly generous scale. The main structure and lining of the interior is made in natural douglas fir timber.
This project was designed in collaboration with Sergison Bates Architects.
