The thinking underlining The New Art Gallery provokes us to pose the fundamental question, 'What is an art gallery?'. Good, lets start talking.

I think that personally its a waste of time and money really, cause I'd like to know wha are they going to do with the old one, what are they goin to do with that? Plus the fact that its going to be one of these so called white elephants, I mean you've only got to go up the road to the old Guild Hall, that was all redone and revamped and its doing nothing what-so-ever an now its just, its only just a restaurant downstairs and upstairs theres nothing only fresh air. I mean the other parts'll probally be the same, I mean, the Garage, another example, I reckon I read in the local press that they're using it to store wheely bins... That's about 3 white elephants I don't know how many more... What you want to do is get some local people, a cross section, sit em down and have a chat and say oh ah we got a million pound in the pot ere, what we gonna do with it? An they'll say, ah I've got a good idea, I tell you what, we've got two art galleries, I tell you what, we'll ave three why not?

I've been to the art gallery quite a lot, because like for my school work I go there and it helps me out a bit, and I like the pictures. I think its a good idea, the New Art Gallery, it'll help peope out with their GCSE's and things.

I won't do the lottery when I grow up, its a waste of money, I'm going to have my own business.

I think the lottery money could be shared out better, I mean, I'm all in favour of supporting art, but then there's art in the exclusive sense, I mean things like ballet, opera, things like that, but art can relate to everyone. Most people when they think about art think thta its a little bit above them, but you see its not, its all about people.

I like the way they pend lottery money. Its public money, it should go for a public cause. I like the fact that some of it goes to charity, and yes, the art gallery, it will be a benefit for the community.

I think its a good idea that walsall has its own art gallery, for other people from round the world to come and see what ideas we have in our part of the world.

A load of rubbish, a waste of money. They should spend the money on schools and hospitals. Its a load of codswallop

I'm not really happy with the way they spend the lottery money, I feel like its biased towrds the southeast, that its biased towards other classes and cultures, higher classes and cultures, if thats the right word, like, you know, I don't feel like we see any of it around here, but I am into youth culture. You know the Garman Ryan is like a little goldmine of classic works, I'm looking forward to the new gallery.

The way I think they ought to spend the lottery money is they ought to have a grid down the side where you can donate to the charity of your choice, not all these fairy things, to the charity of your choice
